The area of Paleokastritsa is situated 20 km far from Corfu Town and consists of two peninsulas and five small bays.  Thanks to its beautiful landscapes, Paleokastritsa soon became the most known place in the island; however, tourism did not alter its enchanting beauty.  As you follow the main road, which passes through all bays, you will find everything that can make a great holiday: footpaths leading to smaller beaches (sand and/or rocks), a harbour in the gulf of Alipas, where fishing boats and yachts moor together and, thanks to the pureness of the sea, glass bottom boats are available for daytrips, swimming pools and water sports (e.g. diving centre).  This all during daytime, while at dark you will find restaurants, bars, live music and open-air dance halls.
As regards history and culture, in the northern side of one peninsula there is the Monastery of Paleokastritsa, which was founded in year 1225.  The present building dates back to the XVIII century, yet it remains an outstanding example of the Greek conventual architecture.  In its surroundings there is a botanical garden where you will meet peacocks and other mythological birds. Another astonishing monastery is the one of Angelokastro, built sheer above the sea, only a few kilometres from Paleokastritsa.
No matter where you are, the view that you will enjoy is unique…starting from one little island in the middle of the sea, which, according to the legend, should be Ulysses’ petrified ship.
